Shrimp Specimen: Bamboo Shrimp

Also known as: Rock shrimp, Fan shrimp and Wood shrimp.

This is a gorgeous animal, not sure if its male or female, but I am leaning toward female. I only have one of these in my tank, I'd like another but they are expensive to get.

These creatures, in spite of their largish size, are entirely harmless to any inhabitants of the Aquarium. Their claws are modified into fans which they hold open to catch plankton and microbes. They do this ALL day and I would reckon all night.

There are some ethical questions you need to ask yourself in regards to owning a creature like this particular shrimp. These are highly likely wild caught animals. This is because breeding Bamboo shrimp requires a jump into salt water. Brackish to full on sea water. I may be considering experimenting with breeding these in the future.
